Turn on two-factor sign-in

Protect your login with a 6-digit code from an authenticator app, keep backup codes for a lost phone, and turn it off when you need to.

Updated 3 min read6 steps

Two-factor sign-in protects your StoreLine account with a second step: after your password, you type a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Someone who learns your password still can't sign in without your phone.

Before you start

  • Anyone with a StoreLine login can turn it on for their own account. No permission is needed.
  • Install a free authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or Authy.
  • Have your current password ready.

Steps

6 steps · ~4 min

  1. Step 1

Click your profile picture and choose Authenticator. You can also find it in Settings → System → Authenticator.
  2. Step 2

    Click Enable authenticator.
  3. Step 3

Enter your Current password and click Continue.
  4. Step 4

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, then click Continue. If you can't scan it, click Can't scan? and type the setup key into the app instead.
  5. Step 5

Enter the 6-digit Authentication code the app shows and click Verify and enable.
  6. Step 6

StoreLine shows 8 backup codes. Click Copy all and keep them somewhere safe, then click Done. They are not shown again.

Signing in with two-factor

  1. Enter your Email and Password and click Sign in as usual.
  2. On the Two-factor authentication screen, type the 6-digit code from your app and click Verify. The code changes every 30 seconds.
  3. No phone with you? Click Use a backup code instead and type one of your backup codes (they look like XXXX-XXXX).

Backup codes

  • Each backup code works once. The Authenticator page shows how many you have left under Backup codes remaining.
  • To get a new set, click Manage backup codes, enter your Current password and a code from your app, and click Regenerate codes. Your old backup codes stop working straight away.

Turn two-factor off

  1. On the Authenticator page, click Disable authenticator.
  2. Enter your Current password and a code from your app, or a backup code if you lost your phone.
  3. Click Disable 2FA. From then on, sign-in asks only for your password.

Tips

FAQ

Check that you're typing the current code for your StoreLine account, before it changes. Also check that your phone's time is set automatically, because the codes depend on the clock. Each code can be used only once.

The code screen times out after 5 minutes or after 5 wrong codes. Click Back to sign in and enter your password again.

While you can still sign in, turn two-factor off with a code from your old phone or a backup code, then turn it on again and scan the new QR code with your new phone.
