Set up SEO and marketing tracking

Set your store's search and share title, description and image, verify with Google Search Console, and connect Meta Pixel, Conversions API, Google Analytics or Tag Manager.

Updated 7 min read12 steps

SEO settings decide how your store looks in Google results and when a link is shared on WhatsApp, Facebook or Messenger. Marketing Connections link your store to Meta (Facebook and Instagram ads), TikTok, Google Ads, Microsoft Clarity, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, so they can see visits and orders.

Before you start

  • Settings → SEO needs the permission Store settings. Only the store owner or an admin can change robots.txt.
  • Settings → Marketing Connections needs the permission Integrations & secrets.
  • Store Owners and Admins have both. Managers and Staff don't have them by default.
  • For Meta, have your Pixel ID from Meta Events Manager. For Google, have your GA4 Measurement ID or your GTM container ID.

Steps: set your store's title, description and share image

6 steps · ~4 min

  1. Step 1

    Go to Settings → SEO.
  2. Step 2

Under Share title & description, type the SEO title (up to 70 characters). It is also your home page's browser-tab and Google title.
  3. Step 3

Type the SEO description (up to 200 characters).
  4. Step 4

Under Store language, pick the language your store is written in. This tells Google the language; it doesn't translate anything.
  5. Step 5

Under Share image, add a wide picture: 1200×630 px is best, JPG or PNG, under 5 MB.
  6. Step 6

Check the Share preview on the right, then click Save changes at the top. You see SEO settings saved.

Left blank, the SEO title and description use the Site title and Tagline from Settings → General. The title and description are used for your home page and any page without its own. The share image is used for every page without its own image; product links use the product's main image.

Search listings for products, categories and pages

Each product, category and store page can have its own title and description for Google. Leave them blank to use the name and description.

  • Products: in Inventory → Products, open the product and click Search engine listing. Fill in SEO title and Meta description. Your store name is added to the title automatically. A preview shows how the product can appear in Google.
  • Categories: in Inventory → Catalog → Categories, edit the category and open its SEO section. Besides the SEO title and Meta description, you can set its Google product category, which helps Facebook, Instagram and Google ads reach the right shoppers.
  • Store pages (About, policies and so on): in Settings → Storefront → Store Pages, fill in SEO title and SEO description under Search engine listing.

Google Search Console and your sitemap

To see your search clicks and keywords in Google Search Console, prove that you own the store. One method is enough.

  1. In Google Search Console, add your store address (shown on the Google Search Console card) as a URL prefix property.
  2. Pick a method on the card. HTML tag: paste the meta tag Google shows you and click Add. HTML file: click Upload file and choose the file Google gives you, or type its name.
  3. Click Save changes, then click Verify in Search Console.
  4. Copy the link on the Sitemap card. In Search Console, open Sitemaps, paste sitemap.xml (or the full link) and click Submit.

Your sitemap lists every page, category and product of your store and updates by itself. If your Google Analytics or Tag Manager is connected in Marketing Connections, Search Console can verify you through it. On your own custom domain, you can also verify with a DNS record at your domain provider.

Steps: connect Meta Pixel and the Conversions API

6 steps · ~4 min

  1. Step 1

Go to Settings → Marketing Connections. The Meta Pixel tab opens.
  2. Step 2

Turn the switch on. It reads Enabled.
  3. Step 3

Type your number under Pixel ID(s) and click Add. A Pixel ID is digits only; copy it from Events Manager → Data sources.
  4. Step 4

For server-side tracking, paste a Conversion API Token. In Events Manager, open your pixel → Settings → Generate access token.
  5. Step 5

Under Events sent to Meta, switch off any event you don't want Meta to receive.
  6. Step 6

Click Save Meta Pixel at the top. You see Meta Pixel settings saved.

When both are set and saved, the chips show Browser pixel: on and Conversions API: on. Until you save, they read not saved yet. Each event is sent from the shopper's browser and from the server with the same event ID, so Meta counts it once.

  • Customer details sent with events (phone, email, name, city/district, postcode and an external ID) are hashed before they reach Meta. The currency is always BDT.
  • Custom events: click Add custom event to send your own named event on a Click, Scroll depth, Time on page or Page view. You can have up to 20.
  • Automatically detected events lets Meta log button clicks and page data on its own. Turn it off to send only the events above.
  • Advanced Matching (browser pixel) adds the customer's details to browser events once they're typed at checkout.

Google Analytics, Tag Manager and other code

  • TikTok Pixel tab: turn it on, enter your Pixel ID and, for server-side tracking, an Events API access token. Click Save TikTok Pixel.
  • Google Ads tab: turn it on and enter your Conversion ID and Purchase conversion label, so every order counts as a purchase conversion. Click Save Google Ads.
  • Microsoft Clarity tab: turn it on and enter your Project ID. Click Save Clarity.
  • Google Analytics tab: turn it on and add your Measurement ID(s), for example G-XXXXXXXXXX. Up to 10 IDs. Click Save Google Analytics.
  • Google Tag Manager tab: turn it on and enter your GTM Container ID, for example GTM-ABC1234 (Google Tag Manager → Admin → Container Settings). Click Save GTM. You can then manage other tags from inside GTM. If the tab shows a note that Tag Manager is locked, paused or off, it is not running on your store right now.
  • Head & Footer tab: paste code from another service. Head Script and Footer Script go on every page. Order Confirmed Head Script and Order Confirmed Footer Script go only on the order confirmation page. Turn the tab on and click Save Head & Footer. If the tab says Custom code is not active on your store, contact StoreLine support: custom code is turned on per store on request.
  • Product Feed tab: a catalog feed link of your active products that you can give to Meta.
